Number of inhabitants (1 Jan 2003): 19.116; area: 283,00 km². Settlements:
Havelte (seat), Boschoord, Darp, Diever, Dieverbrug, Doldersum, Dwingeloo,
Eemster, Frederiksoord, Geeuwenbrug, Havelterberg, Leggeloo, Lhee, Lheebroek,
Nijensleek, Oldendiever, Oude Willem, Uffelte, Vledder, Vledderveen, Wapse,
Wapserveen, Wateren, Wilhelminaoord, Wittelte, Zorgvlied.
Westerveld is a merger of the former municipalities of Diever,
Dwingeloo, Havelte and
Vledder on 1 Jan 1998, has not adopted a flag as
yet.

Dwingeloo is since 1 Jan 1998 part of the municipality of Westerveld
(Drenthe, the Netherlands).
The four castles remind of the 'havezaten' (manorial estates), which
were here, of which two manorhouses still exist. (v. Sierksma, Gemeentewapens).

Drenthe, the Netherlands.
The cross on the flag symbolizes the former lords of Drenthe, the Bishops
