Number of inhabitants (1 Jan 2003): 164.456; area: 129,15 km². Settlements: Breda (seat), Bavel, De Rit, Effen, Eikberg, Haagse Beemden, Hoeveneind, Kerkeind, Lies, Prinsenbeek, Roosberg, Strikberg, Strikberg, Teteringen, Ulvenhout
This flag was adopted by the city council on 11 June 1952, and is red with 3 crosses of St. Andrew, placed 2:1. In the same decree of the city council a "oranje-blanje-bleu" wimpel (orange-white-blue pennant) is mentioned which on special occasions is flown above the city flag.

The present day Breda is a merger of the former municipalities of Breda, Nieuw Ginneken (Bavel and Ulvenhout), Prinsenbeek, Rijsbergen (Hazeldonk) and Teteringen (01-01-1997). The rest of Nieuw Ginneken (Galder and Strijbeek) went to Alphen en Chaam.

Adopted 19 Oct 1949; the five stripes symbolize the five villages of the former municipality: Bavel, Galder, Heusdenhout, Strijbeek en Ulvenhout. The municipal seat was in Breda.
